Pain is the most common reason patients visit doctors, hospitals and health systems. Pain impacts more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. Costs associated with pain in America runs and estimated $635 billion dollars a year including both medical treatment costs and loss of productivity, according to the Institute of Medicine report.

Hospitals are creating pain management programs, designed to help their patients, while retaining them within their hospital system. Hospitals recognize the need to improve pain management outcomes to improve patient satisfaction scores on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. The HCAHPS survey, which is linked to CMS payments, directly asks patient about pain management. For hospitals, a key strategy is structuring their pain programs, from evaluating acute and chronic pain, to providing psychological evaluation if needed and patient education.

The DECA joint venture model will help ensure that patients receive appropriate evidenced based interventional and non-interventional pain management, while significantly enhancing hospital revenue. Generally this can be done utilizing existing resources with minimal capital outlay. After need assessment is completed we can provide illustrations of revenue flow and departmental proforma. DECA brings to the partnership expertise in clinical and operational management of pain specialty service line and can assist in or provide billing and collection services including help with insurance verification, authorizations and pre-certifications helping to drive profitability.

Pain management will enhance Memorial Hospital’s service line. DECA Health utilizes a proprietary Development and Management System to deliver and operate high performing Multimodal Pain Management Centers. We believe in a comprehensive approach which will add additional support to Memorial Hospital’s ancillary services including psychology, laboratory, pharmacy and physical therapy.
